The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge Celebrates "Requiem" and Performs in the U.S.
"That most elegant of mixed Oxbridge choirs" (Gramophone), The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge, directed by Graham Ross, has released a short video celebrating the recent praise for their harmonia mundi recording, "Requiem: Music for All Saints & All Souls". The program of English and Spanish music culminates in Tomás Luis de Victoria's last published work, his six-part 1605 Requiem, regarded by many as one of the finest works of the Spanish Renaissance.
The Financial Times gave "Requiem" 4 Stars, and wrote, “In Victoria’s Officium Defunctorum the Choir of Clare College, conducted by Graham Ross, summons all its eloquence for a masterpiece of the genre." Gramophone declared, "all the pieces on this disc are performed with Clare's customary accomplishment and minute attention to musical detail".
The Choir performs several Christmas concerts in the U.S. this month, with the program, "What Sweeter Music? Songs and Carols for Christmas".

“They give a tremendously accomplished and profoundly satisfying performance of Victoria’s masterpiece...an extremely well sung performance of this wonderful music – and it’s a cause for celebration that a student choir should more than hold its own in this demanding repertoire against seasoned professional rivals"
