Christophe Rousset completes benchmark Well-Tempered Clavier set
Over the course of his career, Christophe Rousset has consistently excelled – both as a harpsichordist and as the director of Les Talens Lyriques. After several albums of keyboard music for Aparté, Rousset turned his attention to Bach's great musical testament: the Well-Tempered Clavier. Following up his critically acclaimed recording of Book 2 (Aparté AP 70), he completes Bach's masterpiece of preludes and fugues with Book 1. With modesty and rigor, he gives a very rich, varied interpretation of this universal monument of art, revealing its secrets to us in a highly informative introductory text. Both volumes are performed on the magnificent Ruckers harpsichord at the Chateau of Versailles, in recordings that ideally reproduce the full flavor of this miraculous instrument.
PRAISE FOR BOOK 2
"I can think of no other musician as reliable and reliably insightful and exciting as Christophe Rousset... He has accomplished what all of the supreme interpreters of Bach's music for solo instruments have: made what can seem, in lesser hands, not just abstract but objective music become deeply personal and communicative."
"Rousset’s well-digested sense of style and finished technique permeate every selection.... His '48' offers much to savor."
