August's top release features 2006 BBC Jazz Awards Rising Star award winner Andrew McCormack. In 2007, McCormack joined Kyle Eastwood's quintet and has been featured on Eastwood's two Jazz Village recordings. Graviton is McCormack's third album as a leader and his Jazz Village solo début. It features a virtual A-List of the world's top jazz musicians. Leading off our classical releases is the harmonia mundi recording début of The Britten Oboe Quartet, featuring virtuoso oboist Nicholas Daniel. The album includes works commissioned and premièred by Janet Craxton, Daniel's beloved teacher and musical inspiration. Also on harmonia mundi, Sébastien Daucé and Ensemble Correspondances bring the Orpheus myth to life with Charpentier's La Descente d’Orphée aux Enfers. On Aparté, violinist Gottfried von der Goltz and the Freiburger Barockorchester perform Geminiani and clarinetist Pierre Génisson and the Quartet 212 play quintets by Mozart and Weber. Acclaimed English viol consort Sit Fast make their début on Evidence Classics with an album featuring John Dowland's Lachrimae and George Benjamin's Upon Silence. New from Rubicon Classics, Emmanuel Leducq-Barôme leads the Baltic Chamber Orchestra in a recording featuring two powerful works composed as a reaction to the horrors of war - Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony No.1 and Strauss's Metamorphosen.
